Abstract

The success of HIV/AIDS therapy depends heavily on ARV adherence, which is often hindered by physical discomfort and the risk of drug resistance. Increasing the motivation and knowledge of people living with HIV through educational interventions is therefore essential. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of online seminars in improving the motivation and knowledge of ODHA regarding ARV use. The intervention involved an online seminar, with respondents completing both a pretest and posttest. A total of 56 respondents participated, consisting of 60.7% males and 39.3% females. The majority (53.5%) were aged 30–40 years, and 57.1% had completed high school. Most respondents (80.4%) used ARVs. Motivation to adhere to treatment was most often influenced by doctors, nurses, psychologists, and health workers (22%). The most common reason cited for adherence was the desire to resume normal daily activities (35.7%). However, 19.6% of respondents reported lacking motivation and did not use ARVs. Knowledge levels were consistently high, with 92.9% of respondents demonstrating good knowledge, and no significant difference was observed between pretest and posttest results. Findings indicate that ARV adherence is supported by adequate knowledge and motivation, although non-adherence is generally linked to low motivation.
